How Long Should Your Blog Articles Be

How long should blog articles be

“How Long Should Your Blog Articles Be?” This is a question that most bloggers and marketers often ask themselves.

The good news is there is no “perfect” when it comes to blog length. Since that’s the case, there’s no point in pondering over the perfect blog post length.

1. Word Count Is Important

Word count is important. However, there is a danger when you are too focused on counting words. You become more concerned about filling the page with enough words and your focus shifts from the message.

It’s better to focus on your message, the quality of the message, and the effective use of words.

You must find the sweet spot. That's the spot where your blog doesn't appear too thin or too hard to read but your message can be clearly understood.

Keep in mind that you are writing for people but you are also writing for search engines.

Not too long ago, any blogger and SEO expert would tell you that the ideal blog post length was between 500 and 800 words to satisfy the search engines. That’s not true today.

It seems that longer blog articles are now favored by search engines. Your keywords and content matter for Google to rank your website as a specialized and trustworthy source in your particular niche.

Key Points:

  • Find the sweet spot where your post is not to thin or too hard to read.
  • The old belief of between 500 and 800 words is no longer true.

2. What Does Research Tell Us?

Various studies about the perfect blog post length found there has been a sharp decline in what is considered to be the ideal word count for a blog. That said, these findings vary depending on what was analyzed.

For instance, one study analyzed which content got the most social shares. They found that a word count between 3,000 to 10,000 was the most shared. But, that’s too much for bloggers and businesses using blogging as a tool to grow their customer base.

A study from SerpIQ found that the elusive sweet spot of blog length was somewhere around 2,450 words. The average word count of a blog that makes it to the first page of Google is around 1,890 words. This finding is according to research done by Backlinko back in 2016.

So, all we’ve found with these three studies is that the ideal word count varies. What's obvious from these studies is that the longer posts usually do better when it comes to showing up at the top of the SERPs.

The reason why long-form content seems to do better is that it covers a topic in depth. It provides more useful information to the reader. This is something that shorter posts presumably can't achieve. Hence, longer posts usually do better when it comes to showing up at the top of the SERPs.

Key Points:

  • Results from three studies show that the ideal word count varies and is around 2000 words and more.
  • The longer posts usually do better when it comes to showing up at the top of the SERPs.
  • The assumption is that longer posts provide more useful information to the reader but that's not necessarily true.

3. Make Your Blogs Easily Digestible

Despite everything said, long-form blogs can be full of gibberish. This is why the quality of the blog is always going to be more important than the length of the blog.

Your goal is to become an expert and display your expertise. It’s in your interest to focus on creating well-rounded articles that are an excellent resource for visitors to your website and satisfy the requirements of the search engines.

For you to be successful, you must provide readers with interesting and in-depth information. But you also have to make it easy for them to read. If you have a lot of information for one blog, break it down.

Use for instance bullet points so that the information is more digestible. Include images, charts, or graphs to make your blogs more interesting. You want your blog post to maintain a sense of thoroughness and be visually appealing.

Key Points:

  • Long posts may be full of gibberish.
  • The quality of the blog post is far more important than the length.
  • Provide readers with useful information and make it easy to read and digest.

It’s safe to say that there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to an ideal blog post length. But there are ways in which you can optimize your blog post for higher conversion.

When it comes to how long should a blog post be for SEO, think about keywords. The main area to consider should be to create diversity in a semantic set of keywords. Those keywords must relate to your targeted keyword across different posts. This will help Google to identify your blog as a specialized and trustworthy source in a particular niche.

Just before you leave, can you please share your thoughts about this content?

A tiny request: If you liked this post, please share this?

I know most people don’t share because they feel that we bloggers don’t need their "tiny" social share.

But here's the truth...

I built this blog bit by bit and with one small share at a time, and will continue to do so.

So, from my heart to yours, thank you so much for your continued support.

A share from you would help a lot with the growth of this blog and its message and help out someone who may need it.

Some great suggestions:.
